Hyundai Santa Fe 2015 review

A winner with the judges at Australia's Best Car awards, this car still wasn't the most popular SUV selling in 2015. With equipment levels that are high at every price point, read on to see why we think it should've been.

Exterior of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2015

The Santa Fe is a large car, being a seven-seater, 4.7m long and 1.9m wide. It has a strong presence on the road, allowing you to carry passengers and luggage without compromising your style. LED daytime running lights, front underbody cladding, wraparound taillights, and dual exhaust pipes contribute to the confident finish.

The rear tailgate is powered and will open automatically when you approach with the key in your pocket, just another great feature of this driver-friendly family car.

We think this is actually the most attractive SUV in the class for 2015, but the style is always a personal taste.

Inside the Hyundai Santa Fe 2015

Dual-zone climate control for front seats, vents and fans for rear seats help to keep all passengers comfortable, essential in an Australian summer.

Between the front seats, there's a deep console for storage. The centre row can slide back & forwards, and has a centre cup-holders, two ISOFIX points for child seats, as well as retractable blinds to keep passengers comfortable. The rear seats are tighter, comfortable for children only.

The boot space is generous at 516 L, enough for a family day trip. Fold both sets of rear seats and you'll open up 1615L of luggage space, big enough to shift almost anything you'd usually need a minivan for.

Connectivity

The 7" touchscreen connects to your Bluetooth phone, USB audio input, and displays the Suna traffic satellite navigation system. The 10 speaker stereo ensures that everyone can hear the sound, even at the back of the car. The screen also displays the reversing camera.

What's it like to drive a Hyundai Santa Fe 2015?

It's not built to go off-road, but if you do then the Santa Fe outperforms other road-faring SUV's this year. Ground clearance is a little lower than the previous model at just 185mm, which makes it a little easier for occupants to enter and exit.

"Off-road, Hyundai Santa Fe is better than average for its class" - Alistair Kennedy

Driving through challenging roads the Santa Fe stays neutral and balanced, thanks to the locally designed suspension and steering. Choose from comfort, normal or sports modes to adapt the electronically assisted steering to your mood and the driving conditions.

You can comfortably tow a caravan or trailer with 2,000-kilogram tow capacity on the automatic, and 2,500 kilograms with the manual. Visibility is a bit limited at the back, but accurate rear sensors coupled to the reversing camera ensure you can park safely.

Who's the Hyundai Santa Fe 2015 for?

The Santa Fe is ideal for the suburban family buyer looking for a second-hand vehicle that still looks totally modern. With a five year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, if you buy a Hyundai Santa Fe in 2017, you'll still have two years warranty on your purchase.
